About the event

We have seen, both regionally and nationally, attempts by far right organisations to weaponise issues relating to the oppression and abuse of women in order to demonise entire ethnic and religious communities, whilst also attempting to portray themselves as the 'defenders' of women's rights.

Here in the North East, far right groups have attempted to use incidents of sexual violence against women, including 'grooming gang' scandals and organised sexual exploitation, in order to whip up racism and anti-refugee rhetoric.

Donald Trump may no longer be president of the US, but his racism and misogyny has emboldened the far right globally, with many conspiracy theories such as QAnon, being rooted in deeply racist and misogynistic beliefs.

Internationally, we are also seeing attempts by far right groups to roll back the rights of women and the LGBTQ+ community.

Please join our panel of speakers from across the North East as we discuss their experiences of racism and misogyny, and how we can counter the lies and misinformation of the far right.

This will be a live online event from the North East Against Racism Facebook page.

Further details to be confirmed.
